Single vision lenses are used to correct short-sighted eyes and long-sighted eyes. Single vision lenses are available in different lens materials to make them thinner if you have a high power prescription. We also offer special lens coatings and filters for all single vision lenses.
Although bifocal lenses are slowly being replaced with multifocal lenses, we can still supply bifocal lenses to those who prefer bifocals or the person who struggles to get use to the new progressive designed lenses.
Bifocal lenses offer two focal distances near and far and is designed to offer good distance vision and also the ability to read close up when required.
Bifocal lenses are not designed to offer intermediate vision, in most cases, an additional separate intermediate/near pair of glasses might be required.
Bifocals lenses are also available in sun active (transition) and we can apply all the available coatings if required.
Multifocal lenses are designed for presbyopes who require correction for all distances from far away to close up. Distance vision, intermediate vision and near vision.
A progressive lens progressively becomes stronger in magnification towards the bottom of the lens. The distance area being the top section of the lens, the middle area is designed to offer intermediate vision or computer distance and the bottom section is designed for reading or close up vision. The user has to use the correct section of the lens to view a desired distance. Each section is dedicated for a particular focal length and it requires some training and perseverance to master this lens design.
Most progressive lens wearers will get use to the design reasonably quick and once you master this lens design you can eliminate the need for multiple pairs of glasses. Basically, an all-in-one pair of glasses.
Please note that although a progressive lens offers vision for all distances it is more limited in the usable area for each section due to the design of the progressive lens. If we fit more sections into the lens design each section becomes smaller. What we mean by this is that if we have a dedicated pair of glasses for driving then we have the entire lens designed for that purpose offering a larger usable area than what a progressive lens can offer with a third smaller usable area for driving. The same principle counts for the intermediate section and the near section. If we make a dedicated pair of reading glasses, we can make the entire lens for reading and this will offer a much larger usable area for reading than what you will experience with a progressive lens.
It is very common for people who wear progressive lenses to also have a second pair of glasses for occasions that require a more dedicated pair for a particular purpose.
A simple example of when an extra pair would come in handy: when you lay down in bed to read a book with a progressive lens you will find that you are looking through the distance section of the lens at the book instead of using the correct reading section. Trying to read through the distance section will not work. In this case a dedicated reading pair that you use for reading in bed only will offer a better solution than the progressive lens design.
At the spectacle maker we can discuss your spectacle requirements and then find a solution that best fits your lifestyle. We offer special discount deals that allows our customers to attain an extra dedicated pair if needed without the price tag normally associated with a second pair.
Special coatings and filters are also available for progressive lenses. This include sun-active and thin lens options.
